Project Brief
This document relates to works for Phase 1, Stages 5A of the Mubarak Al Kabeer Port Project.
The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) of the State of Kuwait is undertaking a major development project on Boubyan Island located off the country’s northern coastline. One component is a major seaport and transportation corridor that will act as a trade gateway servicing Kuwait and the Upper Gulf region, acting as a catalyst for economic growth and development in the country.
The Mubarak Al Kabeer Port Project (MKP) is expected to be developed in three phases:
- Phase 1 accommodating four container berths across a 1,200m quay, associated land backing, a Harbour Master’s Quay and a small boat harbour. The Container Terminal has been designed to allow for an Initial Development container throughput of 1.8m TEU, with scope to expand to 2.7 million TEU per annum in future with the implementation of the Final Development to accommodate the anticipated containerised trade through Kuwait and the expected subsequent future growth in trade.
- Phases 2 and 3 of development will incorporate an additional 14 container berths (with overall capacity of over 8 million TEU for all three phases) and additional berths to accommodate other trades, including bulk, RoRo and multipurpose.
